Marubeni
Energy Services Corporation (MESC)
MESC is the O&M company for the 2 Marubeni-owned geothermal plants
in Mindanao - the Mindanao 1 & 2 Geothermal Partnership. These 2 power
plant projects for which the PNOC-EDC is the off-taker of its 97MW power
generation, were originally constructed under a 50-50 equity sharing arrangement
within Oxbow Power Corporation of West Palm Beach, Florida, USA, but is
now 100% owned by Marubeni Corporation. It is under a 10-year energy conversion
agreement whereby PNOC supplies the steam free-of-charge and pays the
Mindanao Geothermal Partnership a fixed amount for converting said steam
to electricity, which PNOC-EDC then sells to NAPOCOR.
This is another
anchor baseload power plant in the Mindanao grid system which, together
with the many hydro plants, contribute a stable, reliable and cost efficient
power to the island of Mindanao.
